Hi, I’m Jen, thanks for coming by.
I work in empathy and a-ha moments. I am dedicated to creating a more just world through powerful communications.
With 17 years of experience developing messages, communications plans, campaigns, and brands, I founded Constellation Communications to connect the dots of story and strategy, to reimagine systems to center people and make a difference in their everyday lives.
I built my career listening to the goals of my clients, understanding their constituents, and finding ways to grow curiosity, engagement and support for their work. I work with organizers, executive leaders, newly formed organizations and international institutions all with a personalized approach to make change. Ultimately, I hope these wins weave together to create a more just, liberated world.
At the core, I am a heart-driven strategist. I ask why, dig deeper and help people see the bigger vision they have for their work. Using strategy and creative campaigns, we connect the dots between that vision and where they are now in order to focus and advance their work.
I love working with my clients to refine their voice, gather stories, and get their ideas and framing into the spaces they need to be. Whether a private meeting or media blitz, we determine the messaging and methods to make a difference.
As part of my work, I am in perpetual process of untraining myself and my practice from the anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism built into our systems. I developed this free, sharable workbook for myself and others who are committed to a sustained and evolving anti-racism practice. In February 2023 Constellation Communications adopted a company policy of redistributing 5% of income to people whose land and labor we have benefited from. You can read more about that decision and see the policy here.
Place and community matter deeply to me. I live in Brooklyn, NY, and am a Bay Area native, growing up in Vallejo and spending 16 years living in neighborhoods across in San Francisco.
CAUSES & CLIENTS
In my practice, I am relationship and values driven. My work tends to be in partnership with organizations and leaders advocating for systems and policies that prioritize people over profit, with community control and decision-making. I collaborate with a range of people and organizations across a range of intersecting justice issues, always with the underpinning of a racial justice lens and power analysis.
Many of my clients are engaged in new models of philanthropy that shift power and resources to support power building and grassroots organizing. Building on my years working within nonprofits and foundations, this is a priority area of practice where I have deep insights to support reimagining the current funder-driven model moving toward a community-led approach.
